Hello everyone and welcome to my blog! I am very excited to share and document my experience learning about and trying to write calligraphy. I have never considered myself to be a remotely artistic person; however, anyone close to me can attest that I am an avid doodler and find myself passively filling pages with cursive writing over-and-over again. Calligraphy is something I have always admired and wanted to try, so this Genius Project seems like the perfect opportunity to give it a go and share with others to perhaps inspire more people to try it as well. I know very little about calligraphy, so my goal for this project is to learn the basics and practice writing different letters so that by the end I am able to string together at least one fluid word or common phrase such as "Congratulations" or "Happy Birthday".
My progress will be measured by how successful I feel I am at being able to become comfortable writing in calligraphy. I hope that by the end of the nine weeks, I will not need any stencils or visual tools to prompt my writing in this format. I would love to be able to just free-hand write whatever I am feeling and eventually learn and develop my own signature style.
My genius hour question will be: How will I learn calligraphy and write one common phrase (ex. Happy Birthday) by the end of nine weeks?
I hope you tag along on my journey, enjoy the trials and tribulations I'm sure I will have, and provide helpful tips and tricks I discover along the way. I can't wait to pick up a fine-tip marker and start learning!
